"Mr. Stilwell, bearded, with fair hair, pulled back into a ponytail, looks more like a film actor or a rock singer than a dancer, and his shoulders, with their high line, grow a bit hunched later, but the absorption he brings to his moves suggests that he isn’t so much dancing them as living them. Yet he makes them rewarding in purely dance terms. He alone shapes long phrases, with riveting diminuendos (sequences of reiterated movements tapering from big to small and strong to soft), and with sudden shifts of tone and speed but no apparent pause or gear change."
